Danyang County (Danyang-gun) is a county in North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It is very rugged, except in some of the urban areas and villages that can be found in the valleys and hills.
The Eight Views (or Vistas) of Danyang are the selected natural scenes of Danyang County, Chungcheongbuk-do in Korea. They are mainly famous rocks and peaks of this mountainous region.

Among these sights the best known is Dodam Sambong (3 Peak Island), representing the typical love triangle of ancient Korea: a husband, his wife and his mistress. The biggest peak, about 20 feet high with a pavilion on top, in the middle represents the husband, while the first smaller peak on one side of the husband is the wife. On the other side the smallest peak is the mistress. According to legend, the wife was not able to give birth to a son, so the husband found a mistress to produce a son. The wife was upset, which is why the wife peak is farther from the husband than the mistress. If you look at the wife from a specific angle and use a bit of imagination, you will see that the wife was so angry that she turned away from the husband.
Danyang County is in the area of the Namhan River, upstream south of the Han River where Seoul is located. It is said to be in the middle of the route on which the Chinese culture in the olden days reached the southern area of Korean and ultimately Japan.

단양팔경은 아름다운 단양의 산수경관 중에서도 더욱 빼어난 경승지를 엄선하여 선정한 것으로 도담삼봉, 석문, 구담봉, 옥순봉, 상선암, 중선암, 하선암, 사인암 등 8개 경관으로 모두 단양군청 소재지를 중심으로 3~20㎞이내에 위치해 있다.

It is among the best known natural caves in Korea, called the "underground palace" because of its breathtaking natural beauty. Gosu Cave is listed as the country's "Natural Monument No. 256".
"Gosu" means "field of tall reeds," and comes from the fact that the area used to be filled with fields of tall grasses. After the cave was discovered in the early 1970s, rough stone instruments were excavated from the cave's entrance, showing that this used to be a home to prehistoric people.

대부분이 석회석 지질로 이루어진 단양의 지하 깊숙한 곳에는 인간의 손이 미처 닿지 않은 미지의 석회동굴들이 수십 개씩 자리하고 있다. 특히 천연기념물 제256호로 지정된 고수동굴은 길이 1,700m에 이르는 자연동굴로 동양에서도 가장 아름다운 동굴로 손꼽힌다.
둥그렇게 입을 벌리고 있는 동굴의 깊은 속내를 들여다보니 산속에서부터 잔잔히 스며드는 빗물과 공기가 맞닿아 이루어진 예사롭지 않은 모양의 종유석과 석순들이 눈길을 사로잡는다. 마음에 잔잔한 파동을 남기는 마리아상, 힘찬 날갯짓이 돋보이는 독수리 바위, 실제 도담삼봉을 쏙 빼닮은 도담삼봉 바위, 1년에 겨우 0.1mm씩 자라 수십만 년 후에나 만나게 될 종유석과 석순의 안타까운 사랑이 서린 사랑바위, 하늘의 세상을 옮겨온 듯 경이로운 천당성벽 등 동굴 안 세상은 그렇게 인간의 상상력을 뛰어넘는 화려함과 웅장함으로 신비로운 세계를 빚어가고 있다.

세월이 흘러도 변홤없는 뱃놀이의 묘미 충주호유람선 (Chung ju lake Cruise ship)
하늘빛을 훔친 듯 푸르게 빛을 발하는 충주호의물결 그리고 그 물길을 따라 손으로 빚은 듯 아름다운 산세가 물 위에 영롱한 그림자를 이루고 있다.보고만 있어도 욕심이 나는 풍경이다. 그때 하얗게 꼬리를 남기며 유람선 한 대가 지나간다. 빼어난 산수비경이 너무나 아름다워 예로부터 제2의 해금강이라고불리어 왔다는 단양은 수많은 풍류객들이 선상유람을즐기던 곳이기도 하다. 단양에서 유람선을 탈 수 있는곳 중에서는 장회나루가 대표적이다.
이곳에서는 구담봉과 옥순봉 등을 거쳐 청풍나루를 왕복하는 유람선이 출발한다. 나루터에 발이 묶였던 유람선이 사람들을 싣고 천천히 움직이기 시작하면 마치주위의 풍경이 물길을 따라 붕붕 떠내려가는 듯한 착각이 든다. 드디어 물길을 따라 속력을 내는 유람선.시선 끝에 구담봉, 옥순봉 등 단양팔경의 한 자락이 하나씩 펼쳐지고 황홀경에 감탄이 절로 나온다. 뱃놀이를 즐기며 풍류를 노래한 옛 선인들의 흥취가 바로 이러한 것이었으리라.

It's a small city, but a lot of things to do this city. Beautiful 8 landscapes, nature caves, Chung ju lake, Gu in temple, Dae myeong resort, So baek national park, drama making. Really recommended relax city. (전국에 여행을 할 곳은 너무도 많습니다. 그러나, 어느 곳을 두번 이상 방문 한다는 것은 그만큼의 값어치가 있다는 증거 아닐까요? 소박한 인심이 있고, 너무나도 많은 아름다운 곳을 지닌 단양을 꼭 추천 하고 싶습니다.)
